
![]() My name is Sam Nugent. I am also known as Grub - it is quite a long story, but if you want to hear it you will have to visit the 'About' page on my blog! On these pages, I would like to share with you my passion for food... I was born with Cerebral Palsy and I am confined to a wheelchair, so I can't cook for myself. Well, not with my own hands, anyway. But I do have taste buds that work just fine! I love experimenting with different ingredients and taste combinations, and I am lucky that I have people around me that can act as my hands in the kitchen. Most people say that I have a good brain for food. I guess I have just been blessed with a good sense for what food combinations will taste nice. Many of the meals I cook could be categorised as 'comfort food'. And I am not sorry about that one little bit! Who doesn't want to feel happy and contented after digging into a nice bowl of food. The best part about this type of meal is that it involves quick and easy cooking recipes that anybody can make. My aim is to write a recipe book filled with the foods that I enjoy cooking. Hopefully, they will be the kind of foods that you may like to cook as well. I know that people have individual tastes and dietary needs, so I intend to put some low fat low carb recipes, quick healthy recipes & diabetic dessert recipes in my book and here on my blog - so keep checking back! I think it is really important that people with diabetes and other health needs can enjoy their food without having to worry about it, so I will have loads of healthy meal ideas here for you to have a glance through. I really think that people should cook more, rather than relying on fast foods all the time. It saves money and most importantly it's healthier for you! It's not that hard to cook up a quick meal that is nutritious for you and your family. If you have a busy life style you can even cook in bulk and freeze some for another day. That way, you don't have to worry about cooking on a particularly hectic night. Let's face it: nobody likes cooking after a busy day at the office! I will be putting some recipes online and in my book that reflect my own tastes in cooking. Some people may like it and some people may not. The ingredients I use range from the unusual (like kangaroo and crocodile) to those that are readily available for use in quick meal recipes. I think if you don't step out of your comfort zone and try foods that you don't normally cook, then you can't experience the awesome variety of tastes that are out there! Sometimes you have to be brave. Usually you will be pleasantly surprised. Like I said, I really love cooking, but I need somebody to help me with preparing the food. I've got great ideas. Sometimes people say, 'Are you sure, Sam?' I just roll my eyes and say, 'Just trust me! It will turn out great!' At the end of our cooking session, they always say, 'Wow! Sam, that does taste great!' Luckily, my husband is my biggest fan! I am looking forward to bringing you the best in ideas for your kitchen. Cooking does not have to be difficult. If I can do it, anybody can.
